Costco Etiquette
I really love Costco. It has saved our family tons of money and I've gotten pretty savvy about our purchases there to make the most of the bulk buying. But there are definite cons to shopping there. Following is a list of tips to help make it easier for everyone.
1. Don't stop just inside the front door to put your card/glasses/keys away. That huge opening you just walked through is the only entrance and all the other 9,000 people shopping there need to come inside too. Move over please, don't camp out.
2. Much like driving a car, driving your giant cart through Costco works much better if everyone stays to the RIGHT. Right side, people!! You cannot push that minivan-sized cart down the middle of the aisle all willy-nilly. Move.To.The.Right.
3. If you need something on the other side of the aisle, don't leave your cart parked in front of other items. Then you are blocking items on the shelves with your cart AND with your body. Send a scout from your party to go retrieve the item!
4. Cut the people shopping with kids some slack. Do you honestly think they WANT to be shopping at Costco on a Saturday with their children hanging off the cart like some baby possums off their mama?? No, no they do not. They would rather be doing ANYTHING other than that. So keep your dirty looks to yourself and get that parent a free sample, would ya?
5. That being said, if you have your children with you, please please keep them next to you. If they are old enough to walk, they can best be employed as scouts. (See #3)There are lots of cool things to see there, but the store is not a playground or jungle gym. Although they have those in aisle 47 if you want to buy one.
6. If you are one of the fortunate ones wandering around solo, eating all the samples, childless and cartless, respect your privilege. Don't go meandering around, zig zagging like a damn bumblebee with no direction getting in everyone else's way.
7. You won't die if you don't try all the samples, by the way. If there is a traffic jam at a sample table, MOVE ON. Do you really need to try that coconut water? Really?
8. RESPECT THE CROSSWALK PEOPLE. If you are walking in or out, use it. If you are driving STOP for it.
Follow these simple tips and you too can save tons of money at Costco and not be killed by your fellow shoppers.
