Blue Apron Week-Long Trial

As much as I love meal planning and even enjoy going to the grocery store, sometimes I just get burnt out on doing all of the deciding. The rest of my family gives a little input, sometimes special requests, but in general the responsibility falls to me. So when my dear friend Michelle offered me a free week's subscription to the Blue Apron meal delivery service, I jumped at the chance. The gist is that we get three meals that serve two people delivered to our door. If we chose to continue the service, the plan is $64, and we can cancel at any time. We can custom tailor the food we receive according to our preferences and we were given advance notice of what the meals would be. Each meal comes with everything you need (with the exception of salt, pepper, olive oil) and step by step instructions on how to prep and cook, along with color pictures. They also include nutritional information for each meal. I thought it would be a nice change to let someone else make the decisions and just let me do the cooking and blogging. Today we received our box of meals and it was like Christmas in January!

This is what came in the box: all the ingredients for three meals. A pork dish, a chicken dish and a fettuccine dish, with the sides and seasonings and extras like cheese.

Our first meal is Pibil Style Pork: a Mexican inspired dish served with citrus rice and sauteed spinach.
It took about 45 minutes from start to finish and was fairly simple.

Step by step instructions were very clear, including details like "wash hands immediately after handling jalapeno peppers".
duh.

Here is the finished product! It was really good, the marinade on the pork (just a quick 10 minute one) was nice and spicy, the orange salsa was sweet and bright, and the spinach was nice and garlicky.

We will see what the next two meals bring!

  1. Thanks yor for sharing. I especially like the additional tips such as washing your hand after handling jalepeno peppers. Although I feel that's an easy lesson to learn. Looking forward to reading more of your experiences. As someone with several jobs time is at a premium and every little bit helps.
    Thanks and awesome job!!!!
